Welcome to my personal website. I'm Panagiotis (Panos) Kourtesis, a multifaceted academic and professional whose expertise spans across borders, having honed my skills in Greece, France, and the United Kingdom.
My journey in psychology and neuropsychology has led me through various settings, from community centers to hospitals, where I've gained significant clinical experience. In addition to my clinical work, I've developed a keen expertise in statistical analysis, including univariate, multivariate, and Bayesian methods, and have applied these skills in both teaching and research. My role as an educator has encompassed delivering lectures on psychology, statistics, and software development, as well as supervising and mentoring postgraduate and doctoral students. My research efforts have been recognized with EU funding, and I've accumulated valuable experience in project proposal writing, reporting, and management, along with strong capabilities in virtual reality software development, as evidenced by an extensive portfolio of VR applications.
I earned my PhD in Experimental Psychology & Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh. I continued my postdoctoral research at France's National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation (INRIA), contributing to the EU Horizon 2020 Tactility project.
Presently, I serve as an Assistant Professor of Cognitive Psychology and Head of the Psychology Network Lab (PsyNet Lab) in the Psychology Department at the American College of Greece. I am also the Leader of the Neuro-HCI XR research team at the ACG Research Centre.
Additionally, I am a Senior Researcher at both the Department of Psychology and the Department of Informatics and Telecommunication of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Furthermore, I serve as a Visitor Academic in the Psychology Department at the University of Edinburgh.
My research interests lie in immersive technologies (XR), human-computer interaction, and cognitive neuroscience, with a specific focus on frontal lobe functions, perception, human factors, and ergonomics.
My skillset is extensive, covering data science (with particular expertise in statistical analysis and modeling using R), Unity3D software development, user experience and interface design, project management, technology and product development, mentoring, biometrics - including eye-tracking (ET), electroencephalography (EEG), electrocardiography (ECG), and electrodermal activity (EDA/GSR) -, research design, and programming in C# and Python.
